Pronounced 'Anisetta", this classic European liqueur is the cousin to many other aniseed flavoured liqueurs - Pastis, Absinthe, Sambucca - with a lower alcohol level and sweeter flavour. This sweet liqueur is made from a dozen or more different plants and seeds. The deliciously sweet aniseed / licorice aroma and flavour of this liqueur makes a smooth and luscious drink on its own, like sambucca, or add to a mixer to bring a touch of the exotic.
In the 1900s when the popular Absinthe was outlawed, many countries adopted other anise flavoured drinks to take its place. Annisette was was chosen to be made as a liqueur.
